Fees, uptime, support tiers and integration — how to evaluate a bank for your business, not its adverts.

Every Nigerian bank markets aggressively to businesses. Choosing well means ignoring the adverts and interrogating what your operations actually need.

Start with the fee schedule, in writing. Account maintenance, transfers, cheques, reversal charges and ledger fees compound painfully at volume. A bank that quotes a low headline but charges per-transaction on your highest-frequency activity is expensive, whatever the advert says.

Second is uptime and channel quality, because your business banks at 6am and on Sundays. Test the app and internet banking during your real working hours before committing, and ask other business owners in your sector about transfer delays and downtime — patterns, not one-off complaints.

Third, support tiers. Is there a dedicated relationship officer for businesses your size, with a reachable phone number? When a transfer fails at month-end, the difference between a named human and a call queue is the difference between a problem and a crisis.

Fourth, integration. If you use accounting software or receive online payments, check API and payment-gateway compatibility early — retrofitting banking infrastructure is misery.

Our bank comparisons and community reviews exist to shortcut exactly this research: fee surprises, downtime patterns and support quality are the things people report. Read them as patterns, then verify against your own needs before signing.
