This policy explains what information MarketScope Nigeria collects, why we collect it, how it is protected, and the choices you have. We operate with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) principles in mind, and this policy also satisfies the transparency expectations of advertising partners such as Google AdSense.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account data: name, email address and a securely-hashed password when you register.
  • Content you create: reviews, ratings, watchlist and portfolio entries you add, and messages you send through the contact form.
  • Newsletter: your email address — stored as pending until you confirm via the double opt-in email, and removable at any time via the unsubscribe link.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: IP address, browser user-agent and requested pages, kept for security, abuse prevention and error diagnosis.
  • Local storage: your theme (dark/light) preference is stored in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
  • Cookies: a single session cookie (essential, for sign-in and form security). See section 3.

2. How we use information

  • To operate your account, watchlist, portfolio and review activity.
  • To moderate community reviews and prevent spam and abuse (rate limiting, honeypots, audit logs).
  • To send the newsletter — only to confirmed subscribers.
  • To maintain security and diagnose faults.
  • To understand aggregate usage so we can improve the platform.

We do not sell your personal data. Ever.

3. Cookies and advertising

This site uses one essential session cookie. It does not use tracking cookies of its own.

Third-party advertising (including Google AdSense)

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info.
  • Where required by law, advertising cookies are only set after your consent.

Current status: advertising is not yet activated on this platform. No third-party advertising cookies are set today; this section documents the behaviour that will apply when advertising is switched on, so the policy is accurate in both states.

4. Data we never collect

  • Card or bank account numbers — we process no payments.
  • Brokerage credentials — we connect to no trading accounts.
  • Sensitive personal data (health, religion, politics, biometrics).

5. Retention

  • Account data: kept while your account is active; deleted or anonymised on request.
  • Reviews: kept while published; removed from public view on deletion (soft-delete retained for moderation integrity).
  • Contact messages: kept as long as needed to handle your enquiry, then archived.
  • Security logs: kept for a reasonable operational period.

6. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and may object to processing or withdraw consent (for example, unsubscribe) at any time. To exercise any right, use the contact form or email hello@fashion-ten-6b5ba0d8-22335.omnicoder.app. We respond within a reasonable period.

7. Security

Passwords are hashed (never stored in plain text), sessions are protected against fixation, forms against cross-site request forgery, and all database access uses prepared statements. Data is stored outside the public web root. No system is perfect, but we treat your data as we would want ours treated.

8. Children

The platform is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves; the "last updated" date above always reflects the current version. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
