The ASI explained: what it tracks, what it cannot tell you, and how to read index moves.

The NGX All-Share Index is a benchmark that tracks the share-price performance of companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange. It rises when the weighted prices of covered shares rise on average, and falls when they fall.

What the index does not tell you is just as important: it says nothing about valuations being cheap or expensive, nothing about dividends, and nothing about any individual stock.

When reading index moves, always check the date and source. On this platform, every figure is clearly labelled demonstration data until a real attributed provider is connected — a deliberate honesty policy, because publishing invented numbers is worse than publishing none.
